GEOPOLITICAL TRIBUNE
America's Founding Fathers, probably never perceived of, anything occurring, such as what we have witnessed, these past 3 years. Their true fears, which they hoped to protect this nation against, was having a President, who behaved like the King, they were abandoning, and separating from. For that reason, they decided, it was necessary, to create a system, with a genuine, Balance of Powers, between the three branches of our Government, the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Their hope was, by doing so, our country and citizens, would be protected against placing too much power in the hands of any individual, and, therefore, created, the Impeachment Process, for what they referred to, as, high crimes and misdemeanors. Although, they specified, offenses such as foreign influences, and bribery, they used the other language, to include, a wider variety of dangerous offenses. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, what it is, and isn't, and, how the criteria is not simply, based on criminal law, but, hopefully, a higher standard.
1. It isn't a regular, legal case, but a political one, based on what is considered, appropriate or inappropriate, especially, to a disqualifying degree: We have witnessed, much news, and Congressional attention, regarding the behavior of President Donald Trump, both, regarding alleged behavior regarding the 2016 election (specifically, involvement with Russia, etc), as well as a supposed, attempt to harm the chances of a potential, 2020 political opponent, by asking Ukraine's assistance. Defenders and enablers of the President, as well as Trump, himself, often, claim, a lack of sufficient criminal evidence, although, it is not a prerequisite for this process. In addition, impeachment is determined by the House of Representatives, and is similar to the legal process, of an indictment by a Grand Jury. On the other hand, although a majority of House members, are needed, for impeachment, to convict, and remove, two - thirds of the Senators, is necessary for conviction/ removal. 2. House begins the process, through an Inquiry: The Inquiry begins in a specific, appropriate committee, and is being led, currently, through the House Intelligence Committee. Although, Trump and his supporters, complain about the process, and make demands, such as are available during a criminal process, like, with a Grand Jury, these remedies are not appropriate. The Committee calls witnesses, and, then, determines, whether, to refer the matter, to the Judiciary Committee, for moving along the impeachment process. 3. Recommend from Committee to Judiciary: If referred to the Judiciary Committee, that committee, creates, what is known as, Articles of Impeachment, with specific reasons/ rationale, for the process, to proceed. 4. Full House considers: The Judiciary Committee refers the matter, to the full house, after considering, whether, the actions, deem this needed, and appropriate. The entire matter is considered by the House of Representatives, under the leadership of the Speaker of the House, and, eventually voted upon, If a majority, vote to impeach, the President is impeached, and the matter, is referred to the Senate. 5. Senate hold trial: The final arbiter is the Senate, and the trial, is held, under the supervision of the Chief Justice, of the Supreme Court. In order to convict, and remove, two - thirds, of these individuals, must vote to remove. Since this ends up, potentially, being a political process, instead of a judicial one, the innocence or guilt, of the individual, may, potentially, not be determined. One should not be impeached, simply, because, we don't agree with policy, or like an individual! Rather, if someone's actions, reach the level, of being, impeachable, and endanger, our nation, by inappropriate, irresponsible, or illegal behavior, he should be impeached! Wake up, America, because, this present situation, will, most likely, never be determined, in a way, which is, either satisfying, or relevant! (NewsUSA) – It’s shorthand for the potential danger faced by women using app-based, ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft. And if you’re already dismissing how dangerous it can be, you’ve obviously missed the rash of headlines like these from across the country.
• “Uber Driver Charged With Rape Ordered Held After Dangerousness Hearing” (Boston Globe, August 2016) • “Police Had Tip That Lyft Driver Charged With Sexual Assault Planned To Flee Country” (Dallas Morning News, November 2015) • “Police: Uber Driver Returns to Rape, Burglarize Passenger at Her Home” (FOX-TV New Orleans, January 2016) • “Fake Uber Driver Arrested After Brutal Sexual Assault of Passenger in Westlake: LAPD” (KTLA-TV Los Angeles, April 2016) You read correctly. Per that last headline, we’ve now reached the point where bad guys are actually posing as Uber drivers in order to lure unsuspecting women into their cars. “With the alarming number of alleged sexual assaults involving ride-hail app drivers, it’s urgent that we bring this issue to the forefront of conversations,” says Delilah Rumburg, CEO of the nonprofit National Sexual Violence Resource Center. To that point, the organization has allied with another nonprofit, the National Limousine Association (NLA), which — in calling for a “Passenger Bill of Rights” last year as part of its “Ride Responsibly” initiative — has been spearheading a nationwide movement to subject drivers for the Ubers of the world to the same rigorous criminal background checks as those behind the wheels of taxis and limos. To up the ante, both have enlisted Pamela Anderson — she of former “Baywatch” fame — to make their case in a Public Service Announcement. “You can’t always vet the driver you are using,” she says in “The Driving Game!” video, “but the service you are using should.” Whether even Ms. Anderson will be enough to steel the backs of politicians up against formal opponents in the ride-hailing industry in general, and that Uber in particular, remains to be seen. The main sticking point? Forcing the industry to finally start spending the extra bucks to fingerprint their drivers instead of relying on what NLA President Gary Buffo dismissively calls, “the perilously in-comprehensive background checks” Uber and its ilk continue to defend. Just how formidable is the ride-hailing industry? Consider this: a few months after Uber and Lyft pulled out of the Austin, Texas, market last May, rather than comply with new fingerprinting regulations that voters had just endorsed, the issue came up again in Massachusetts. Boston, you see, had been experiencing a slew of alleged sexual assaults by Uber drivers that left women on edge. Even so, lawmakers were unable to muster the votes needed to include a fingerprinting requirement in the statewide law that ultimately passed. “It’s really frustrating when you see these attacks happen over and over again,” State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry, who favored fingerprinting, tells the Boston Globe. “It’s hurtful to the victim and hurtful to the community.” “When,” she adds, “is it going to stop?” (NewsUSA) – Occupy Wall Street’s most recent push, “May Day,” exemplifies the crux of the protest: it’s a great forum to express widespread discontent about financial issues, but less adept at affecting bona fide change between giant corporations and average consumers.
Critics of the movement tend to call it politically dangerous and radical, like pollster Doug Schoen in the Wall Street Journal. On the other hand, President Obama is embracing a 2012 platform crusading for the 99 percent against the presumptive GOP nominee. However, Obama’s administration didn’t fulfill its original vows promising Wall Street culpability or repercussions for reckless bankers. Despite the public sentiment created by the Occupy movement, in four years, the federal government hasn’t filed a single charge against any Big Finance executives. “It’s perplexing at best,” said Phil Angelides, the Democratic former California treasurer who chaired the bipartisan Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. “It’s deeply troubling at worst.” While Occupy Wall Street succeeded in presenting a means to express concern, the federal government continues to hedge upon promises of financial accountability. How can individual consumers take action? A budding movement called All Our Power offers an alternative that’s designed to build off the momentum created by Occupy Wall Street and spur real action. As the fledgling movement spreads, millions of members will give All Our Power the ability to negotiate with top bankers, retailers, health insurance companies, cell phone providers and more. In fact, the Occupiers at Zuccotti Park were joined by a large rally of protesters from All Our Power in early May. Their signs and chants urged passersby and Occupiers alike to join their member base to amass a group 10 million strong. As the movement continues to swell in size and influence, the group intends to secure lower prices, significant discounts and long-term contracts for all members — and membership is free. “With these kinds of numbers, we can truly bring negotiating power to make huge corporations concede to the needs of individual consumers,” explains Joe Kalfa, founder of All Our Power. “Our plan is to hold a bunch more rallies in the coming months across the U.S. Our movement is a solution that bridges the gap between the 1 percent and the rest of us.
