Botswana authorities have announced that a further four suspected cases of the Corona Virus are currently being monitored.
It follows the recent announcement of the first suspected case of the virus, was registered on January 30th, at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport after the arrival of a passenger on an Ethiopian Airways flight from China.
The suspected passenger is now being kept under quarantine at the Block 8 Clinic in Botswana’s capital, Gaborone.
“The ministry continues to monitor the situation closely in consultation with World Health Organisation (WHO) and will keep the public updated,” the Botswana government said in the statement.
Voters headed to the polls today for The Republic of Botswana general elections, over 80% of registered voters turned out. The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) won a clear majority, after they gained 38 seats (67%) in parliament and 321 seats (70%) in city councils.
In accordance with the country’s legislation, Mokgweetsi Masisi, the leader of the election list of the winning BDP, has been declared president of Botswana. He served as the official, but not elected, head of state since 01/04/2018, after President Ian Khama resigned in line with Botswana’s political tradition.
